Are Royal Trim and Mouldings bendable?

Open Accordion Menu Item

We do offer mouldings that are specially formulated for heat bending, but not all cellular PVC trim and mouldings apply. For example, Royal S4S Trimboard is not recommended for bending, but SurEdge and Precision Cut trim can be bent into a reasonable radius.

Cellular PVC is a thermoplastic polymer, which means it becomes pliable or bendable when exposed to certain temperatures, returning to a solid state when cool. Because of its nature, some cellular PVC profiles can be reheated and reformed; however, variations in batches, profile geometry, and density or weight of the profile mean some experimentation will be required to perfect this skill.

For best results, don’t bend any cellular PVC trim greater than 6” wide.  Please see the Royal Installation Handbook for detailed instructions regarding bending PVC.

Can I paint Cellular PVC darker colors like black?

Open Accordion Menu Item

Yes! For dark colors, with a light reflective value (LRV) of 56 or lower, it is imperative that an approved solar reflective coating is used. These paints are typically referred to as solar reflective, or heat reflective coatings for vinyl. Failure to use the proper coatings specific to dark colors will result in heat distortion and buckling to any Cellular PVC.

There are well known coatings manufacturers that offer solar reflective coatings that are safe to use on vinyl and Cellular PVC trim & mouldings:
PPG Paints - SidingSafe® Technology
Sherwin-Williams - VinylSafe® Technology
On dark colors light reflective value (LRV) of 56 or lower, it is imperative that an approved solar reflective coating is used.
